Big May Day: The May Day Procession
Andrews enlisted many people to create an astounding Elizabethan atmosphere. Banners fluttered from atop campus towers, flower garlands adorned processional floats, and everyone dressed in Elizabethan garb. The procession commenced from Rockefeller Arch and travelled across campus to Merion Green. It featured Queen Elizabeth, the portayer of whom was selected by alumnae ; Robin Hood and Maid Marion, whose actors were nominated by the student body ; the May Pole runners; Morris dancers; heralds; revellers; and milkmaids. Those in attendance greatly anticipated the entrance of the May poles, pulled in by two milk-white oxen.
