Letter to Robert Elliott Speer and Emma Bailey Speer, 20 Dec 1925

Dublin Core

Title

Letter to Robert Elliott Speer and Emma Bailey Speer, 20 Dec 1925

Subject

Notable Individuals

Description

In this letter to her parents, MBS writes a very detailed description of the political tensions brewing in China. She focuses on war (fighting between Feng and Li Chin-lin) and on the growth of the Anti-Christian movement. The second page features a particularly insightful paragraph about the reputation of Christianity as an imperialist tool of the West, and how Westerners will have to work harder to show tolerance for Chinese religion lest they completely poison the reputation of the West and undermine all of their educational work in the process.
